The winner of the prestigious European Museum of the Year Award – 2019 is Rijksmuseum Boerhaave in Leiden, The Netherlands.
Rijksmuseum Boerhaave is a science museum with a special focus on medicine; it was named after Herman Boerhaave (1668-1738), a widely recognized man of science of his time, a physician, anatomist, botanist, chemist and a professor and rector of Leiden University.
The European Museum of the Year title was awarded to Rijksmuseum Boerhaave for the high quality and relevance of its activity in communicating science through modern technologies as well as through personal histories of people dedicated to science, bringing engagement and inspiration to its audiences.
The European Museum of the Year Award was established in 1977 by the European Museum Forum – an organisation associated to the Council of Europe.
