The winner of the European Museum of the Year Award, the annual prize celebrating museums newly opened in 2016, was announced on the 6th of May in Zagreb, Croatia: the Ethnographic Museum of Geneva got the prize.
The list of all the nominees is available here.
The award was established in 1977 by the European Museum Forum, an organization under the auspices of the Council of Europe, promoting excellence in European museums and more widely in the field of culture.
Though having more nominations during the years, Romania only won once, in 1996, with the National Museum of Romanian Peasant.
Next year’s award ceremony will be held in Warsaw, Poland.
I have not been here but did enjoy the National Museum of Romanian Peasant when I visited Romania.

Thank you for your comment! The Peasant Museum is not everybody’s taste with its concept of recreating a universe, rather than explaining individual exhibits.
